Product Overview

Discover reference-level performance with the Solis stereo power amplifier. Designed and hand-built in England, it is engineered for listeners who demand exceptional sound quality, refined design, and uncompromising craftsmanship. Every component is carefully selected for its sonic excellence, ensuring your music is reproduced with remarkable clarity, precision, and detail across every format.

Designed to drive even the most demanding loudspeakers, the Solis is an ideal partner for the Mercury pre-amplifier. Its circuit has been refined over several years to deliver a highly engaging and accurate performance. Using separate chassis for the pre-amplifier and power amplifier allows sensitive low-voltage circuitry to remain isolated from high-current power stages, reducing interference and resulting in a cleaner, quieter signal path. The Solis is also fully compatible with the Rega Aethos stereo power amplifier.

    Amplifier Circuit

The Solis features a fully symmetrical circuit design with a low-distortion, high-linearity driver stage, allowing it to deliver powerful voltage swings and drive virtually any loudspeaker with minimal distortion. Its high-current triple output stage uses premium Sanken transistors for exceptional control, even with difficult loads. Carefully selected components, including Nichicon audio-grade capacitors and non-inductive resistors, ensure a tight, controlled soundstage with excellent low-frequency authority and refined high-frequency performance.

    Power Supply

The Solis is powered by dual custom 330VA toroidal transformers with high-grade core material to reduce mechanical noise and ensure stable operation under demanding mains conditions. With 40,000µF of smoothing capacitance per channel and fast recovery rectifier diodes, it delivers exceptional current capability, effectively doubling power into 4Ω loads. A regulated, low-noise symmetrical power supply feeds the input and driver stages, ensuring outstanding sonic purity and stability.

    Protection

The Solis features comprehensive protection circuitry monitoring both speaker DC levels and amplifier temperature for safe operation. A microcontroller-based slow-start and supervisory system minimizes inrush current, manages standby functions, and ensures compliance with Eco requirements. These control and protection circuits use a dedicated power supply isolated from the audio path to preserve signal purity.

Balanced / Unbalanced

For domestic Hi-Fi use, Rega recommends unbalanced connections for optimal sound quality, as the core circuitry of both Mercury and Solis is unbalanced by design. While balanced XLR connections are included and perform to a high standard, they require additional circuitry that can introduce slight noise or distortion.

Balanced connections are primarily intended for professional environments with long cable runs where noise rejection is necessary. In most home systems, this added complexity offers no inherent sound quality advantage over unbalanced connections.
