Product Overview

The Nd9 cartridge draws on decades of expertise in cartridge engineering and cantilever design to deliver the highest-performing moving magnet cartridge we have ever produced. Our design team has introduced a Boron rod cantilever with a Fine Line stylus profile based on the reference Aphelion 2 moving-coil cartridge for use in the Nd9. The Boron cantilever offers exceptional stiffness and low mass, enabling ultra-fast response and outstanding playback accuracy. The Nd9 is also available as a factory-fitted option on the Planar 8 turntable.

The Rega Nd9 is hand-built by skilled technicians and features an advanced fine line nude diamond stylus mounted on a boron cantilever for exceptional detail retrieval and musical accuracy. The precision diamond profile allows the stylus to track even the smallest groove variations, delivering outstanding clarity and resolution. A newly designed generator geometry with optimized pole gap improves channel balance, linearity, and soundstage performance. The Nd9 also uses miniaturized parallel coils wound in-house to achieve low inductance and improved high-frequency response. In line with Rega’s sustainability goals, the Nd range is supplied in 100% recyclable packaging.

  • Nd Magnet Technology

The Rega Nd9 is among the first moving magnet cartridges to use a Neodymium (Nd) N55 magnet, one of the most powerful commercially available. This design delivers greater output and efficiency compared to traditional bar magnet designs, contributing to improved dynamics and overall performance.

  • Boron Cantilever & Fine Line Stylus

The Nd9 features a boron cantilever paired with a precision fine line nude diamond stylus for exceptional tracking accuracy and detail retrieval. The lightweight and rigid boron construction allows faster response to groove changes while minimizing distortion for more accurate vinyl playback

  • Glass-Filled PPS Body

The cartridge assembly is housed in a lightweight, glass-filled polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) body. This rigid, low-mass design reduces stress on tonearm bearings and allows freer movement, improving tracking stability and overall playback accuracy.

Rega Rebuild Scheme

Rega’s pivot pad design eliminates the mechanical joint between the stylus housing and cartridge body, improving stability and tracking performance. When the cartridge reaches the end of its life, it can be returned through an authorized dealer for a factory rebuild at a reduced cost, restoring performance to original specifications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Rega Nd9 a moving magnet or moving coil cartridge?

The Rega Nd9 is a moving magnet (MM) cartridge that uses advanced neodymium magnet technology to deliver performance typically associated with moving coil designs.

What type of stylus does the Nd9 use?

The Nd9 features a fine line nude diamond stylus designed for excellent tracking accuracy and detailed retrieval from vinyl records.

What tonearms is the Rega Nd9 compatible with?

The Nd9 is designed to work perfectly with Rega tonearms but is also compatible with most standard tonearms using a conventional two-bolt mounting system.

Does the Nd9 require a special phono preamp?

No. As a moving magnet cartridge, the Nd9 works with any standard MM phono input found on most integrated amplifiers and phono stages.

How does the Nd9 compare to moving coil cartridges?

The Nd9 offers high detail, excellent dynamics, and strong channel balance while maintaining the convenience and higher output level of a moving magnet design.

What tracking force is recommended for the Nd9?

Rega recommends a tracking force of approximately 1.75g for optimal performance and tracking stability.

Can the stylus be replaced separately?

The stylus is not user-replaceable. Rega offers a rebuild program where the cartridge can be exchanged for a factory-refurbished unit at a reduced cost.

What makes the Nd9 different from previous Rega cartridges?

The Nd9 introduces neodymium magnet technology, a new generator design, and a refined cantilever and stylus assembly for improved detail, soundstage, and overall performance.
