Product Highlights

On the Go

Strato M makes it easy to enjoy your Kaleidescape movies at home, on vacation, or bring movie night to your friends and family.

Lossless Audio

Strato movie players provide lossless audio, maximizing sound quality with a range of downstream components. Strato supports multichannel and spatial audio codecs including Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, DTS:X, and DTS-HD Master Audio.

Kaleidescape’s lossless audio makes your processor, amplifiers, and speakers sound the way the director intended. The dialogue is clearer, and every subtle sound and rumble draws you deeper into the story.

Lossless 2K Video

High-fidelity output. Strato M plays 4K movies in standard dynamic range, HDR10, and Dolby Vision, with BT.2020 and 4:2:2 chroma, making reference 2K video output look sharper, with more accurate color fidelity.

Downloaded, Not Streamed

Movie bitrates up to100 Mbps. Kaleidescape movies are high bitrate and downloaded to local storage for uninterrupted, flawless playback. There is never buffering or degradation, unlike streaming services that are limited by internet infrastructure.

Kaleidescape movies are also unconstrained by file size limits, enabling our content team to maximize the video quality transcoded from studio mezzanine files, unlike Blu-ray discs that have a maximum file size limit.

Standalone

Kaleidescape’s lowest cost of entry. When standalone, Strato M stores about a half-dozen high-bitrate movies on an internal, solid-state drive. Strato M features the same streamlined interface as Strato V, optimized for navigating a small movie library.

Strato M can download a Kaleidescape movie in minutes over gigabit Ethernet. Downloads become a candidate for automatic deletion 48 hours after playback, making room for more movies. Purchased movies can be re-downloaded at any time.

Scalable

An investment that grows with you. Want room for more movies or players in additional rooms? Unlock the full Kaleidescape experience by grouping Strato with Terra Prime movie servers. Add Strato V to primary viewing areas and Strato M to ancillary spaces, like kitchens or bedrooms. Any number of Strato movie players can be grouped into a system, with up to four servers per system.

Ghes (or farther), the Strato M’s 2K video output will work for your space. For anything closer than that, you may want to consider a Strato V for its stunning 4K video output. Read our Theater Guide article on Screen Size, Viewing Distance & Resolution to learn more.rouping with a server activates the iconic Kaleidescape covers view and list menus for navigating large movie libraries. It also unlocks Kaleidescape’s parental control settings and proprietary child remote, for a customizable family-friendly experience.

Viewing Distance

For theaters or living rooms where your viewing distance is approximately 1.5x the size of the screen in inc

Installation Made Easy

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Kaleidescape Strato M?

The Kaleidescape Strato M is an entry-level movie player from Kaleidescape's Strato lineup, designed to bring lossless audio and reference-quality 2K video to home theatres, secondary viewing zones, and marine or commercial installations. Rather than streaming, the Strato M downloads full-bitrate movie files from the Kaleidescape Movie Store to its internal 480GB solid-state drive for uninterrupted, buffer-free playback. The Kaleidescape Strato M is available at Trutone Electronics in Mississauga, Ontario.

Why does the Kaleidescape Strato M output at 1080p when it can download 4K content?

The Kaleidescape Strato M outputs at a maximum of 1080p regardless of whether a 4K version of a movie is downloaded. The player downloads full 4K content and downscales it to 2K 4:2:2 for output, which often retains more detail than native 2K content because high-quality 4K masters contain more pixel data that survives the downscale. Kaleidescape recommends the Strato M for setups where the viewing distance is at least 1.5 times the screen's diagonal measurement, where the human eye cannot resolve the 4K advantage.

What audio formats does the Kaleidescape Strato M support?

The Kaleidescape Strato M supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, Dolby Digital, DTS Digital Surround, Dolby MAT PCM, and PCM up to 7.1 channels at 96kHz/24-bit. Audio is delivered exclusively via its HDMI 2.1 output — the Strato M does not include a separate coaxial or optical digital audio output, unlike the Strato V. Because Kaleidescape downloads audio tracks at the same bitrate as lossless Blu-ray disc audio, the quality advantage over streaming services is immediate and significant.

How much content can the Kaleidescape Strato M hold and what happens when storage fills up?

The Kaleidescape Strato M includes a 480GB solid-state drive with room for approximately six high-bitrate 4K movies in standalone mode. After a downloaded movie has been watched, it becomes a candidate for automatic deletion 48 hours later, freeing space for new downloads. All purchased titles remain linked to the owner's Kaleidescape account and can be re-downloaded at any time, so storage management is low-friction — buying a movie is permanent regardless of whether it resides on the player at any given moment.

Can the Kaleidescape Strato M work on its own or does it require a Terra server?

The Kaleidescape Strato M works fully as a standalone player, requiring only a Gigabit Ethernet connection to the internet and an HDMI display. In standalone mode it stores content on its internal 480GB SSD and uses a streamlined interface optimized for a small movie library. When grouped with a Kaleidescape Terra Prime movie server over a local network, the Strato M gains access to the server's larger storage capacity and unlocks the full Kaleidescape experience including Covers view, List view, parental controls, and user collections.

Can the Kaleidescape Strato M play 4K movies purchased from the Kaleidescape Movie Store?

A buyer who purchases a 4K movie from the Kaleidescape Movie Store while using a Strato M will have the HD version downloaded to the player since the Strato M's output is limited to 2K. The 4K version of the purchase remains permanently associated with the owner's Kaleidescape account, meaning that if they later upgrade to a 4K-capable player such as the Strato E or Strato V, they already own the 4K version and can download it at no additional cost. All movie purchases travel with the Kaleidescape account, not the hardware.

What control systems is the Kaleidescape Strato M compatible with?

The Kaleidescape Strato M integrates natively with Josh.ai, Crestron, AMX, Control4, Savant, and Lutron RA3 and HomeWorks lighting control directly over Ethernet. HDMI CEC is supported for basic TV control integration, and front-panel IR control is also included. The Kaleidescape mobile app on iOS and Android provides full remote control, content browsing, and movie purchasing without needing the player powered on.

How does the Kaleidescape Strato M fit the broader Strato lineup and who is it best for?

The Kaleidescape Strato M is the entry point of the Strato lineup, positioned for buyers entering the Kaleidescape ecosystem for the first time, owners of high-end 1080p displays, and system designers looking for a cost-effective player for secondary rooms, kitchens, or marine zones. It delivers the same lossless audio quality as every other Strato player and the same Kaleidescape Movie Store access, making it a genuine Kaleidescape experience. Buyers whose primary room includes a 4K display and close viewing distances will benefit from upgrading to the Strato E or Strato V for native 4K output.
