Product Overview

5.25-inch (130mm) 2-way Bookshelf Loudspeakers

The JBL L52 Classic is a 5.25-inch two-way bookshelf loudspeaker and the compact entry point in JBL's Classic series. It carries the same visual language as the larger L100 and L82 Classic models: a genuine satin walnut wood veneer cabinet and the Quadrex foam grille in a choice of black, burnt orange, or dark blue. Internally, the L52 Classic pairs a 5.25-inch cast-frame Pure Pulp cone woofer with a 0.75-inch titanium dome tweeter fitted with an acoustic lens waveguide. The enclosure is front-ported, which reduces placement sensitivity near rear walls compared to rear-ported designs. A front-panel high-frequency attenuator allows tonal adjustment of the tweeter level. Dual threaded inserts on the rear panel accept optional third-party wall-mount brackets. Left and right cabinets are mirror-imaged.  The JBL L52 Classic is rated for amplifiers from 10 to 75 watts into 4 ohms and suits compact rooms and lower-power systems.

Comes with orange foam grille. Black and blue grilles available separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the JBL L52 Classic?

The JBL L52 Classic is a 5.25-inch two-way bookshelf loudspeaker and the compact entry point in JBL’s Classic series, designed and engineered at JBL’s acoustic engineering facility in Northridge, California. The JBL L52 Classic is available at Trutone Electronics in Mississauga, Ontario.

How does the JBL L52 Classic compare to the JBL L82 Classic MkII and JBL L100 Classic MkII?

The JBL L52 Classic uses a 5.25-inch woofer and a 0.75-inch tweeter, compared to the 8-inch woofer and 1-inch tweeter of the L82 Classic MkII and the 12-inch three-way system of the L100 Classic MkII. JBL rates the L52 Classic’s frequency response from 47Hz at -6dB with a maximum power handling of 75 watts, making it a distinctly smaller speaker suited to compact rooms.

What amplifier power does the JBL L52 Classic require?

JBL specifies a power range of 10 to 75 watts RMS for the JBL L52 Classic. The speaker has a nominal impedance of 4 ohms and a sensitivity of 85dB at 2.83V/1m, so an amplifier with moderate output and stable 4-ohm performance is the appropriate choice.

Does the front port on the JBL L52 Classic affect placement options?

The JBL L52 Classic uses a front-firing bass-reflex port on the front baffle rather than the rear panel. Front-ported speakers are generally less sensitive to distance from rear walls, which gives more flexibility when placing the speaker on a shelf, stand, or close to a wall.

Can the JBL L52 Classic be wall-mounted?

The JBL L52 Classic has dual threaded inserts on the rear panel using M6 x 1.0 threads spaced 2.64 inches (67mm) center-to-center, which accept third-party wall-mount brackets. This allows the speaker to be wall-mounted when a compatible bracket is provided.

What does the HF attenuator on the JBL L52 Classic do?

The JBL L52 Classic has a high-frequency level control on the front panel that adjusts the output level of the tweeter. This provides a simple way to tailor the high-frequency balance for the room or personal listening preference.

What tweeter does the JBL L52 Classic use?

The JBL L52 Classic uses a 0.75-inch (19mm) titanium dome tweeter mated to an acoustic lens waveguide. The waveguide helps control the tweeter’s dispersion pattern and broadens the listening sweet spot.

Does the JBL L52 Classic support bi-wiring?

The JBL L52 Classic has a single set of gold-plated binding posts and does not support bi-wiring or bi-amplification. This is different from the L100 Classic MkII and L82 Classic MkII, both of which include dual binding posts and separated bi-wire/bi-amp crossover networks.

What finish and grille options are available for the JBL L52 Classic?

The JBL L52 Classic is available in a satin walnut wood veneer cabinet. The speaker comes with the orange grille included. Black and blue grilles are available separately.
