Product Overview

8-inch (200mm) 2-way Bookshelf Loudspeakers

The JBL L82 Classic MkII is an 8-inch two-way bookshelf loudspeaker from JBL's Classic series, sharing the same visual identity and design approach as the L100 Classic MkII in a more compact cabinet. The L82 Classic MkII pairs the same 1-inch titanium dome tweeter with acoustic lens waveguide found in the L100 Classic MkII with an 8-inch cast-frame Pure Pulp cone woofer. Both drivers have been updated in the MkII version for improved dispersion. The crossover has been redesigned to support bi-wiring and bi-amplification through a new premium terminal cup with dual sets of gold-plated binding posts. A single front-panel attenuator allows adjustment of the high-frequency output level. Left and right cabinets are mirror-imaged for symmetrical stereo placement. The cabinet is finished in natural walnut veneer with the Quadrex foam grille in black, orange, or blue.

Comes with orange foam grille. Black and blue grilles available separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the JBL L82 Classic MkII?

The JBL L82 Classic MkII is an 8-inch two-way bookshelf loudspeaker that shares the design heritage and Quadrex foam grille aesthetic of the JBL L100 Classic MkII in a more compact footprint. The JBL L82 Classic MkII is available at Trutone Electronics in Mississauga, Ontario.

How does the JBL L82 Classic MkII differ from the JBL L100 Classic MkII?

The JBL L82 Classic MkII is a two-way design with an 8-inch woofer, compared to the L100 Classic MkII’s three-way configuration with a 12-inch woofer and a separate 5.25-inch midrange driver. The L82 Classic MkII has an 8-ohm nominal impedance and a maximum recommended amplifier power of 150 watts, making it compatible with a broader range of amplifiers.

What changed between the original L82 Classic and the JBL L82 Classic MkII?

The JBL L82 Classic MkII features updated woofer and tweeter drivers with improved dispersion and a new premium terminal cup with a separated bi-wire/bi-amp crossover network and dual sets of gold-plated binding posts.

What amplifier power does the JBL L82 Classic MkII require?

JBL recommends an amplifier power range of 25 to 150 watts RMS for the JBL L82 Classic MkII. The speaker has an 8-ohm nominal impedance and a sensitivity of 88dB at 2.83V/1m, making it less demanding on amplifier current output than the 4-ohm L100 Classic MkII.

Can the JBL L82 Classic MkII be bi-wired or bi-amped?

The JBL L82 Classic MkII includes a separated bi-wire/bi-amp crossover network with dual sets of gold-plated binding posts, allowing the speaker to be driven by two separate amplifiers or connected using separate bi-wired cable runs from a single amplifier.

What does the HF attenuator on the JBL L82 Classic MkII do?

The high-frequency attenuator on the front panel of the JBL L82 Classic MkII allows the listener to adjust the tweeter output level to suit the room’s acoustic character or personal preference. The L82 Classic MkII has one front-panel attenuator for HF control; unlike the L100 Classic MkII, it does not have a separate MF attenuator.

What is the crossover frequency of the JBL L82 Classic MkII?

The JBL L82 Classic MkII has a single crossover point at 1.7kHz, where the woofer hands off to the tweeter. The tweeter on the L82 Classic MkII therefore operates over a wider frequency range than the tweeter on the three-way L100 Classic MkII, which crosses over at 3.5kHz.

What speaker stands work with the JBL L82 Classic MkII?

JBL recommends the JS-80 speaker stand for the JBL L82 Classic MkII, with a recommended stand height of 16 inches (404mm). The JS-80 is sold separately.

Are the JBL L82 Classic MkII sold as mirror-imaged stereo pairs?

The JBL L82 Classic MkII is sold as mirror-imaged stereo pairs, with the tweeter positioned toward the inside edge of each speaker. Setting the pair up with the tweeters facing inward toward the listening position provides the intended stereo image geometry.

What finish and grille options are available for the JBL L82 Classic MkII?

The JBL L82 Classic MkII is available in a natural walnut veneer cabinet. The speaker comes with the orange grille included. Black and blue grilles are available separately.
