Product Overview

12-inch (300mm) 3-way Bookshelf Speakers

The JBL L100 Classic MkII is a 12-inch three-way bookshelf loudspeaker and the latest generation of JBL's L100, the company's best-selling loudspeaker of the 1970s. The MkII builds on the L100 Classic with updated drivers across all three positions: the 12-inch cast-frame Pure Pulp woofer with dual spider, the 5.25-inch polymer-coated Pure Pulp midrange, and the 1-inch titanium dome tweeter with acoustic lens waveguide have all been revised for improved dispersion and reduced distortion. The crossover network has been redesigned with a separated bi-wire/bi-amp configuration and a new premium terminal cup with dual sets of gold-plated binding posts. Two front-panel attenuators allow independent adjustment of midrange and high-frequency output levels. The cabinet is finished in natural walnut veneer and fitted with JBL's signature Quadrex foam grille in a choice of black, orange, or blue.

Comes with orange foam grille. Black and blue grilles available separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the JBL L100 Classic MkII?

The JBL L100 Classic MkII is a 12-inch three-way bookshelf loudspeaker and the current version of JBL's L100, an iconic speaker first introduced in the 1970s that became JBL's best-selling loudspeaker of that era. The JBL L100 Classic MkII is available at Trutone Electronics in Mississauga, Ontario.

What changed between the original L100 Classic and the JBL L100 Classic MkII?

The JBL L100 Classic MkII features updated woofer, midrange, and tweeter drivers with improved dispersion, along with a new premium terminal cup housing a separated bi-wire/bi-amp crossover network and dual sets of gold-plated binding posts. The overall three-way topology, 12-inch woofer size, and cabinet dimensions remain the same as the original L100 Classic.

What amplifier power does the JBL L100 Classic MkII require?

JBL specifies a recommended amplifier power range of 25 to 200 watts RMS for the JBL L100 Classic MkII. The speaker has a nominal impedance of 4 ohms and a sensitivity of 90dB at 2.83V/1m, so amplifier selection should account for the 4-ohm load.

What do the MF and HF attenuators on the JBL L100 Classic MkII do?

The JBL L100 Classic MkII has two front-panel attenuators that independently adjust the midrange (MF) and high-frequency (HF) output levels. These controls allow the listener to tailor the tonal balance of the speaker to suit the room acoustics or personal preference without requiring a separate equalizer.

Can the JBL L100 Classic MkII be bi-wired or bi-amped?

The JBL L100 Classic MkII includes a separated bi-wire/bi-amp crossover network with a premium terminal cup housing dual sets of gold-plated binding posts. This design allows the speaker to be driven by two separate amplifiers or connected using two separate speaker cable runs from a single amplifier.

Do the JBL L100 Classic MkII require dedicated speaker stands?

JBL recommends using the JS-120 or JS-150 speaker stands (sold separately) with the JBL L100 Classic MkII, at a recommended stand height of 7 inches (180mm). These stands are designed to position the speaker at an optimal listening height.

What drivers does the JBL L100 Classic MkII use?

The JBL L100 Classic MkII uses three drivers: a 12-inch cast-frame Pure Pulp cone woofer with a dual spider for reduced distortion, a 5.25-inch polymer-coated Pure Pulp cone midrange driver, and a 1-inch titanium dome tweeter mated to an acoustic lens and waveguide for controlled high-frequency dispersion.

What is the frequency response of the JBL L100 Classic MkII?

The JBL L100 Classic MkII has a frequency response of 40Hz to 40kHz at -6dB, with crossover points at 450Hz between the woofer and midrange and at 3.5kHz between the midrange and tweeter. The three-way driver configuration allows each driver to operate over a narrower frequency band.

What finish and grille options are available for the JBL L100 Classic MkII?

The JBL L100 Classic MkII is available in a natural walnut veneer cabinet. The speaker comes with the orange grille included. Black and blue grilles are available separately.
